What the teacher is, is more important than what he teaches.”

― Karl A. Menninger

Quality education goes way beyond the curriculum presented in a classroom. Knowing a concept or having a skill is certainly important, but knowing how to apply them is even more important. As such, I try to prepare my students for life, not just the assessments throughout the term. I believe in an holistic approach to education. Students need to be versatile, adaptive and multi-talented to make the most of the world today. It is that belief in diversity that has allowed me to teach so many different subjects.

My career as an educator has been wonderful and diverse! At TPS, TCC and SCIS, I have had the pleasure and fortune to teach some of the following subjects:

• MYP Design
• MYP Visual Arts
• Maths (HS & MS)
• Computer Graphic Arts
• Desktop Publishing
• Music - Percussion Ensemble
• Business
• Computer Concepts and Applications
• Multimedia

Quite possibly, I began my career as an educator by offering private percussion lessons in HS. Later in college, I began working for Tulsa Public Schools as a part time Assistant Band Director. At SCIS, I helped grow the percussion program from a single middle school class to a five year, four level program.

Desktop Publishing is not just a technical skill, it's an art that tangentially touches so much in our lives. I have taught middle and high school students the ins and outs of desktop publishing, producing books, magazines and so much more.

My students often take multimedia for granted, but I'm amazed at all the impressive things they can so easily create. From 3D models in Google SketchUp or Autodesk Fusion to videos in iMovie, the universe of possibilities is ever expanding in our increasingly digital world!

Graphic Arts is certainly one of my favorite subjects to teach. We can explore so many things such as the MYP Design Cycle, technical skills and software like the Adobe suite, and of course a never ending array of visual art projects.
